West Rogers Park / Skokie

Chicago's most established Orthodox neighborhood — Devon Avenue's kosher corridor, a dense grid of shuls, and direct eruv connectivity into adjacent Skokie make this the Midwest's best-infrastructure Orthodox community at a fraction of coastal prices.

West Rogers Park (WRP) and adjacent Skokie form the spine of Midwestern Orthodox Jewish life. Devon Avenue is the community’s commercial artery: Kol Tuv kosher grocery, Tel Aviv Slices Pizza (one of Chicago’s oldest kosher restaurants), and the Romanian Kosher Sausage Company are all here. Congregation KINS is the anchor Modern Orthodox shul; Congregation Or Torah in Skokie is one of the largest Modern Orthodox synagogues in the Midwest. The eruv covers virtually the entire neighborhood, connecting into Skokie and Lincolnwood.

Ida Crown Jewish Academy provides Orthodox high school education on Pratt Boulevard; Hillel Torah North Suburban Day School serves Skokie families (K–8). The Chicago Community Kollel on California Avenue anchors adult learning across the community. Housing is dramatically more affordable than New York or LA — two-bedroom apartments regularly rent under $1,500/month.
