Moving to Potomac and Rockville: a practical guide
Housing and what it costs
Potomac is one of the most expensive parts of the Washington area: mostly single-family homes on large lots. Rockville and North Bethesda, a few minutes east, have townhouses, condos and apartments at lower prices. Use the apartment search above for live listings, and compare Rockville ZIPs as well as Potomacβs.
Picking a street
The three Seven Locks Road shuls β Beth Sholom, Young Israel Ezras Israel and Chabad β are a few hundred yards apart, so the streets around them keep all three within a walk. Families who daven at Magen David Sephardic or the BECO Beis Medrash look closer to Woodglen Drive and Edson Lane in North Bethesda. Distances are larger than in Kemp Mill, so check the walk from any house to the shul you will use on Shabbos.
Kosher and daily life
Motiβs Market on Boiling Brook Parkway is the local kosher grocery, butcher and takeout. The larger kosher shopping strip in Kemp Mill, Silver Spring, is a 20-to-30-minute drive east. Mikvah Ateres Yisroel is at Chabad of Potomac on Seven Locks Road.
Schools
We have not mapped an Orthodox day school inside Potomac or Rockville itself. Berman Hebrew Academy in Rockville and the Silver Spring schools serve families from both sides of the county. Confirm current admissions, tuition and busing directly with each school.
Commuting
Rockville and North Bethesda are on the Metroβs Red Line, and the Capital Beltway and I-270 put downtown Washington and the countyβs employment corridor within reach. That access is a large part of why families choose this side of the county.
