The most affordable Orthodox Jewish communities, by home price

105 US communities ranked by the Census median home value for each one's ZIP code, cheapest first โ€” with how many shuls each has and how many families rent.

How to read it. Each figure is the US Census median home value for the ZIP code a community's housing search uses (American Community Survey, 2020โ€“2024) โ€” the whole ZIP, as valued by owners. It is a fair way to compare one community with another, not a quote: asking prices today usually run higher, and the blocks near the shuls can differ from the ZIP as a whole. Where most homes are apartments, the median counts co-ops and condos too, so it reads lower than a house there would cost โ€” Riverdale and Sunny Isles Beach are examples. Toronto and Montreal have no Census figure and are left out.

Are these the prices I will pay?

No โ€” they are a fair way to compare communities, not a quote. Each figure is the US Census median home value for the whole ZIP code a community sits in (American Community Survey, 2020โ€“2024 5-year estimates), as valued by the owners who live there. Asking prices today usually run higher, the streets within walking distance of the shuls can cost more or less than the ZIP as a whole, and where most homes are co-ops or condos the median reads lower than a house would cost. Each community's relocation guide says which sections cost what.
