Orthodox Jewish neighbourhoods in Montreal

2 neighbourhoods compared — 19 shuls on the map.

Greater Montreal has the second-largest Jewish community in Canada, and its Orthodox life sits in two very different places. Côte-Saint-Luc, Hampstead and Snowdon are the Modern Orthodox, yeshivish and Sephardic center — Beth Israel Beth Aaron, Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem, the Adath and a large, largely French-speaking Sephardic community.

Outremont and Mile End are home to Montreal's Chasidic kehillos — Satmar, Belz, Vizhnitz, Bobov, Skver and more. Since 2025 the Montreal Grand Eruv has connected the local eruvin of both areas into one citywide eruv, while each keeps its independence.

Counts are what ShulMap has mapped so far, not a census — the largest communities have many more shuls and shtieblach than we list. A dot means we have not mapped that category there yet, not that it has none. The price band is relative within each area; median home is the US Census figure for the community's ZIP (2020–2024), as valued by owners. Sephardic shuls in Montreal →

Frequently asked questions

What are the Orthodox Jewish neighbourhoods in Montreal?

ShulMap maps 2 Orthodox neighbourhoods in Montreal: Côte-Saint-Luc and Outremont. Together they have 19 shuls on the map. Each has its own page with a walkable shul map.

Which neighbourhood in Montreal has the most shuls?

Côte-Saint-Luc has the most on ShulMap, with 10 mapped, followed by Outremont (9). Shul count is a rough guide to community size, not to fit — a smaller community with a daily minyan near housing you can afford may suit a family better than a bigger one.

Is there an eruv in these neighbourhoods?

It differs community by community, and ShulMap never infers one. Each community page carries its own eruv detail with the source and the date it was last checked. Always confirm with your local rav or the eruv hotline before carrying on Shabbos.

Walking distance: Walking-distance circles are approximate and do not assert a halachic standard. Confirm what is walkable for you locally.
