About Scottsdale
Scottsdale is the newer and more affluent half of Orthodox Arizona. Ahavas Torah: The Scottsdale Torah Center on North Scottsdale Road, founded in 2004, is the community’s Orthodox anchor and draws families and singles across every age group. Congregation Beth Tefillah on East Shea Boulevard and Chabad of Scottsdale on North Scottsdale Road complete the picture — a compact community rather than a dense one.
What makes Scottsdale work for observant families is that it does not have to stand alone. The Valley Eruv Project’s eruv runs between SR-51 and Loop 101, and the North Central Phoenix Orthodox corridor — six shuls within blocks of each other on 7th Street — is roughly twenty minutes southwest. Greater Phoenix’s nine Jewish day schools, several mikvaot, and more than a dozen kosher restaurants are shared infrastructure that Scottsdale families draw on.
Housing runs to newer and larger single-family homes than the Phoenix corridor, priced accordingly, in a city better known nationally for golf and resorts than for its Torah community.
