Is there an eruv in Crown Heights?

Crown Heights has an eruv, built in 2024. Whether to rely on it is a question on which opinions differ: the Crown Heights Beis Din has ruled against carrying, while the eruv's organizers stand behind it. ShulMap takes no position — ask your rav.

Background

An eruv was built in Crown Heights in June 2024. Its organizers say it is under Rabbi Yekusiel Zushe Rub of Mishmeres HaEruv in Lakewood, that it serves Crown Heights, Brownsville and East Flatbush, and that it is checked weekly.

The Crown Heights Beis Din (Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Braun) has ruled against carrying on Shabbos in Crown Heights, most recently in a public letter in September 2025.

The eruv's organizers stand behind it and publish their reasoning, with sources, on the eruv's own site.

Can I carry on Shabbos in Crown Heights?

That is a question for your own rav. ShulMap takes no position and maps no boundary.

Why doesn't ShulMap list an eruv status line for Crown Heights?

Because relying on the eruv here is disputed, publishing one side's status line would be taking a side in the machlokes. ShulMap lists status lines only where an eruv is communally accepted.

Eruv: Eruv boundaries are shown for orientation only and reflect the boundary, not live up/down status. Always confirm with your local rav or the eruv hotline before relying on them.
