Picking a block

The community’s core runs along Kingston Avenue from Eastern Parkway south to Empire Boulevard, spreading onto President, Union, Carroll, Crown, and Montgomery Streets. Closer to 770 and Kingston means everything at your door; the eastern and southern edges trade distance for space and price. Almost everywhere in the core, multiple minyanim are within a short walk.

Kosher and daily life

Between Kahan’s, Empire Kosher, and the small shops on Kingston, the full weekly shop happens in the neighborhood, and the restaurant scene keeps growing. The Mikvah of Crown Heights on Union Street serves the community’s women; men’s mikvaos operate in several shuls.

Schools

Oholei Torah (boys) and Beth Rivkah (girls) are the community’s flagship mosdos, joined by United Lubavitcher Yeshiva and a wide ring of cheders and preschools. Schools are central to Crown Heights life — if you’re moving with children, start the conversation early.

Commuting and getting around

The 3 train stops at Kingston Avenue on Eastern Parkway (the 4 express runs nearby), putting Manhattan’s east side about 35–45 minutes away; buses run down Kingston and Utica. Many residents work within the community itself — in the mosdos, shlichus infrastructure, and the neighborhood’s growing small-business economy.
