Moving to Bathurst & Lawrence: a practical guide
Housing and what it costs
Lawrence Manor and Glen Park have many post-war bungalows and semi-detached houses, often rebuilt or extended; Bedford Park, east of Bathurst, has larger and pricier homes. There are also apartments and condos along Bathurst Street and Lawrence Avenue. Use the apartment search above for live rentals in M6B, and compare M6A and M5N too.
Picking a street
Most families choose by shul. Bathurst Street itself has the most within a few blocks; the streets west of Bathurst around Lawrence Manor are closer to Shaarei Tefillah, Chevra Shas and the shtieblach north of Lawrence, while the area around Glencairn and Caribou Road is closer to Shaarei Shomayim, Ben Ish Chai and the Agudah.
Kosher and daily life
Bathurst Street is the community’s main street, with kosher shops, bakeries and restaurants along it. The Lawrence Manor Mikvah is on Bathurst and the Agudath Israel Congregation has its own mikvah on McGillivray Avenue. The subway’s Yonge–University line stops at Lawrence West and Glencairn.
Schools
Tiferes Bais Yaakov’s girls’ high school is on Stormont Avenue, and many of Toronto’s Orthodox elementary schools and yeshivos are along the Bathurst corridor between here and Thornhill. Confirm current admissions, tuition and busing directly with each school.
Who it fits
Families who want to live in the city, walk to a wide choice of shuls and be on the subway. Families looking for newer houses and more space usually also look at Thornhill, about 15 minutes north.
