Picking an area

The choice is essentially the East Hill versus the downtown-adjacent core. The East Hill is quieter, greener, and considerably more expensive, with East Hill Synagogue serving that end. The core around Broad Avenue puts you walking distance from Congregation Ahavath Torah and closer to shops and transit. Because Englewood’s eruv is maintained separately from the Teaneck–Bergenfield eruv, confirm coverage for a specific address rather than assuming the boundary matches the neighboring towns’.

Kosher and daily life

Englewood has kosher shopping and dining of its own, but its real advantage is position: Teaneck’s Cedar Lane strip is a short drive, and the rest of Bergen County’s kosher infrastructure is within easy reach. Many families treat Englewood as a quieter, more residential base with the county’s amenities a few minutes away rather than on their own block.

Schools

The Moriah School on South Woodland Street is the community’s educational anchor — a coed Modern Orthodox day school drawing families from across the county. Yeshiva Ohr Simcha also operates in Englewood. For high school, most families look to the Bergen County options in and around Teaneck and Paramus. Commuting

Englewood is among the closest Bergen County Orthodox communities to Manhattan — just west of the George Washington Bridge, with bus service to Port Authority.
