Housing and what it costs

Teaneck is one of the more expensive Orthodox communities in the country, and demand from Modern Orthodox families keeps it that way. Single-family homes in the Orthodox sections generally trade from the high $600Ks into the $1M+ range depending on block, size, and condition; larger or renovated homes on the more sought-after streets go higher. Rentals are limited but real — The Marq, Teaneck Square, and Avalon were built or renovated with the community in mind and sit within the eruv. Picking a section

The practical dividing line is Route 4, because the eruv runs as two independent sections north and south of it. The West Englewood Avenue corridor is the center of gravity, with Bnai Yeshurun (CBY), Rinat Yisrael, and Shaarei Orah clustered along it. The south end near Queen Anne Road is anchored by Beth Aaron and Young Israel. Most Orthodox families choose by which shul they want to daven in and which schools their children attend — nearly every Orthodox block has a minyan within walking distance.

Kosher and daily life

Cedar Lane is the commercial spine. Cedar Market handles full-service groceries under RCBC supervision, and the restaurant row — Estihana, Sababa, Schnitzel+, La Cucina Di Nava — draws diners from across Bergen County. Day-to-day, most families do their main shopping in Teaneck itself rather than driving out of town, which is a large part of the appeal.

Schools

Teaneck is unusually well-served at the high school level: Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) for boys and Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for girls are both in town. For elementary school, many Teaneck families use the surrounding Bergen County day schools — Yavneh Academy in Paramus, The Moriah School in Englewood, and RYNJ in River Edge among them — so school choice often means a short drive rather than a walk. Confirm current admissions and busing directly with each school.

Commuting

Teaneck is roughly 20 minutes from the George Washington Bridge outside of peak times, which makes Manhattan genuinely commutable. Express buses run to Port Authority, and a large share of the community works in New York City — one reason Teaneck skews toward professionals and draws families who want a Manhattan career alongside a full Orthodox infrastructure.
