Moving to Encino and Tarzana: a practical guide
Housing and what it costs
Encino and Tarzana are mostly single-family homes on larger lots south of Ventura Boulevard, with apartments and condos along the boulevard itself. By the Census ZIP figures, Encino’s 91316 is valued a little below Valley Village’s 91607. Use the apartment search above for live listings.
Picking a street
The Encino shuls — Bet Yosef, Haichal Moshe, Ateret Marjan, Netan Eli and Makor Hachaim — cluster on a few blocks of Ventura Boulevard, so the streets just south of Ventura keep several within a walk. Tarzana’s shuls are further west and more spread out, so check the walk from a specific house.
Kosher and daily life
Ventura Boulevard has kosher restaurants and shops, and Valley Village’s kosher markets are about 15 minutes east. Chabad of Tarzana houses the Abraham Dayan Mikvah, and Miriam’s Well Mikvah is also in Tarzana.
Schools
Families use the San Fernando Valley’s Orthodox schools, several of them in Valley Village and Sherman Oaks. Confirm current admissions, tuition and transportation directly with each school.
Who it fits
Persian and Sephardic families above all, and families who want more space than Valley Village or the Westside, with a car for school runs.
