Housing and what it costs

Summerlin is a master-planned suburb on the western edge of the valley, and it is the reason the relocation math works: Nevada has no state income tax at all, and housing here — while not cheap by Sunbelt standards — buys considerably more than comparable money in Los Angeles, which is where a large share of this community came from. The stock runs to newer single-family homes and townhomes in planned villages, many of them gated. Note that some villages have long internal roads that add real walking distance even when the map looks close. Picking an area

The eruv runs in a north and a south section, and that is the practical dividing line. The north section holds the Summerlin Shul on Village Center Circle, Bet Yosef, and Chabad of Summerlin. The south section, where Summerlin, The Lakes, and Peccole Ranch converge, is anchored by Young Israel Aish on West Sahara Avenue. Choose by which kehilla you want to daven in, then confirm that a specific address actually sits inside that section of the eruv — ask the Kollel rather than assuming.

Kosher and daily life

Day-to-day shopping runs through two mainstream supermarkets with dedicated kosher operations: Smith’s Kosher Experience on North Rampart Boulevard and the Albertsons kosher market on South Fort Apache Road. Several kosher restaurants operate around the valley, including closer to the Strip, and the roster changes more than in an older community — confirm current hashgacha and hours directly before relying on any of them.

Schools

The community is served by the Kollel and several Jewish schools in the Summerlin North area. This is a smaller kehilla than Houston or Phoenix, so school options are correspondingly fewer — speak directly with the Summerlin Shul or the Community Kollel about current grades served, admissions, and what families with older children actually do.

Who it fits — and visitors

Las Vegas suits families willing to trade institutional depth for no state income tax, newer housing, and a small, tight-knit kehilla twenty minutes from an international airport. It is also, genuinely, a visitor community: observant families pass through constantly for conventions, simchas, and trips, and Summerlin is where the minyanim, the eruv, and the kosher groceries are.
